Baltimore is a world-class port, and is a large transportation hub, well serviced by interstate highways I-70, I-95, I-83,I-81, and by railroads such as Norfolk Southern and CSX. It is the closest port geographically to the mid-west and, combined with the Washington-Metropolitan Area is one of the nation´s most populous regions.
Because of the demands of the intermodal transportation industry, our attorneys who specialize in transportation related claims must have experience with and knowledge of not only ocean carriage but also terminal operations, warehousing, trucking, railroad, and air carriers. We understand the multilayered relationships of brokers, agents, forwarders, owner/operators which give rise to the complex issues of law application in intermodal bills of lading, tariffs and insurance coverage issues.
The booming recreational boating industry, especially in the Chesapeake Bay region, with its marinas, repair yards and associated industries also contributes to the need for attorneys well versed in maritime laws. Although recent advancements in marine technology and the extension of admiralty law to recreational vessels have dramatically changed the character and appearance of the maritime industry, the maritime laws and customs at the center of the legal issues found on the waterfront today remain largely unchanged from those of our rich maritime heritage.
The Admiralty, Maritime and Transportation Law Group is comprised of David W. Skeen and Stephen F. White (both "Proctors-in-Admiralty" with the Maritime Law Association of the United States) ; and James W. Constable and Frederick L. Kobb (who are both members of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel). They have the knowledge and expertise to assist in solving virtually any problem which may occur in the area of transportation of goods and people.
